Founded in October 2011 in Memphis, TN, SisterReach, Inc. is a Black woman-led grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to advancing human rights. We prioritize Black women, women and teens of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, gender-expansive people, and their families through the lens of Reproductive and Sexual Justice.
Our mission is to empower those we serve to lead healthy lives, nurture healthy families, and thrive in safe, sustainable communities. Our efforts span local, state, regional, national, and international levels to drive meaningful impact.
Our Commitment
We are dedicated to creating opportunities that empower the people we serve to lead abundant lives, equipping them with the tools to make their own decisions and advocate for their futures. We pledge to expand our capacity and reach, fostering collaboration to advance human rights and build a more just and equitable society for all who rely on our support,
Our Impact
Before SisterReach's founding, no organization in Tennessee formally operated through the reproductive justice (RJ) framework. Since our establishment, SisterReach, Inc. has led the way in championing this framework, inspiring state and regional stakeholders to adopt and adapt it as a strategy to improve service delivery, and advance human rights. Today, the reproductive justice framework is widely recognized as a powerful lens and practice, thanks to SisterReach’s pioneering leadership and unwavering commitment to empowering marginalized communities. As we have evolved in our base focus, so have we evolved our analysis to include sexual justice as an interconnected component of the RJ framework. Reproductive and Sexual Justice (RSJ) is our renewed commitment to those who are pregnant capable, gender expansive, and to those whose identities are invisible.
“My people are destroyed by a lack of knowledge...”
Our Values
Inspired by the biblical principles in Hosea 4:6 (KJV), “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” and John 10:10 (KJV) “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
We believe that living abundantly is a sacred birthright for every human being.
We are committed to education and promoting optimal wellness. Our ultimate goal is to advance human rights by addressing the systemic and intersectional oppressions that impede growth, development, and the well-being of all people.
We believe that everyone deserves to experience a sustainable quality of life.
We affirm that people are most empowered when they have access to the tools and knowledge needed to make informed decisions about their health and lives.
We uphold the inherent dignity and human rights of all individuals. Our dedication is to dismantle all forms of reproductive, sexual, racial, and religious oppression to achieve freedom, justice, and equity for the people we serve.
